Styles
Blackwork Tattoos
Blackwork tattooing is a visually striking and readable style.
It is characterized by the extensive use of solid black. It can use no or minimal shading or incorporate dots/stippling to add texture and shape. Negative space (skin) can also be used to create the image against high contrast black.
The blackwork style covers a broad range of subjects from abstract black patterns, simplified black bands and shapes or ornate/decorative linework pieces which from classic tribal tattoo motifs to create a contemporary style.
Blackwork can also be a way to create custom stylised images of plants, animals, faces and figures.
